Here at Myco to mark our one-year anniversary, we will be supporting 2 different charities each year.

For the next six months we will be supporting People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES). Charity Number: 274206

PTES is a UK based charity who have been standing up for wildlife for over 40 years. They work very closely with scientists, conservationists, landowners and the general public.

PTES Mission Statement:

To save our wildlife for the future

Our delicately balanced ecosystem requires protection, and PTES are working hard to bring our most threatened species back from the brink of extinction.

They are funded by donations and set up grant programmes to support the best scientific researchers and wildlife experts out in the field and the evidence they provide guides worldwide conservation.

A few examples from the UK:

Reintroduction of the Red Squirrel • Saving the Scottish single site micro-moths • European Wildcats reintroduction into Wales • Monitoring the danger to Hedgehogs on roads, food availability, habitat and predators • Giving ground-nesting Heathland Bees and Wasps a helping hand – habitat management • Bats and how they are affected by woodland coppicing • Noble Chafer Beetles and their habitat loss • Dung Beetles have been around since the Dinosaurs but now they are in decline • European Eels have seen a sharp decline since the 1980’s • Butterflies and climate change • Recovering essential seagrass meadows, 44% of our seagrass has been lost since 1936

Our wildlife is disappearing. Almost two thirds of species in the UK alone have declined in the past 50 years. We need to realise that this is not natural or inevitable and that this should be a concern for us all.

They aim to educate and inspire and rely on volunteers to monitor British wildlife and improve our surroundings for OUR nature.

Wildlife Action – People’s Trust for Endangered Species

Over the next six months the Myco Team will be raising money for this important charity, we need to all get involved, our ecosystem is fragile, and we cannot just expect a small amount of glue to hold it all together.

Being charitable isn’t just about the amount of money you raise, it is also about educating yourself, getting involved and the mindfulness this brings you.

As the months go on we will keep you updated with events and updates on our fundraising activities.

Well, here we are June! How did we get to the midpoint of another year so quickly?

June is a packed month for events and important dates.

June marks the start of the Summer for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere and during June we will have the Summer Solstice when we have the day with the most sunlight hours (or at least we hope we will see “sunlight” hours).

A few notable dates:

1^st June  – Global Day of Parents

2^nd – 8^th of June – Child Safety Week

4^th June – Hug Your Cat Day 2025 – I have 4 so I think I may have to work from home that day!

5^th June – World Environment Day which shares the day with Sausage Roll Day!

6^th – 7^th June – Eid al-Adha

8^th June – World Ocean Day

14^th June -Worldwide Knit in Public Day

15^th June – Father’s Day

21^st June – Summer Solstice which shares the day with World Giraffe Day and if you come across a Giraffe at night, listen closely you may just hear it hum

23^rd – 30^th June – International Women in Engineering

30^th  June – The start of Wimbledon fortnight

We have just started a large project which will keep everyone on their toes over the next few months, with a second one to start this week, alongside this we have our ongoing smaller projects. So, the buzzwords in the office are planning and support, both of which we as a small team pride ourselves with.

We also have a couple of projects which are coming to a close and we are at the final stage; site visits, snagging and certificate sign offs, and on top of that we have just been given the nod for another large project we are due start the design for in September – we like to be busy! 😊

So hopefully the sun will continue to shine for us all, and we can enjoy those extra hours of sunlight.

May is an important month in the calendar year, in the UK, from May 13^th we see the start of National Smile month. The recent sunshine has given all of something to smile about and hopefully it will continue into May.

This is the time of year we start thinking about the outside of our homes, whether we are lucky enough to have a garden, or just a few window boxes, this is when our summer begins to bloom.

At Myco Design we have just celebrated our 1-year anniversary, and what a year it has been. From the uncertainty of starting the business to saying, “why didn’t we do this sooner?”
